This is a year of community, healing, and exercise. Certified Therapy Dogs from Canine Training Behavioral Services; CTBS will lead the pack on our relaxing and beautiful walk along the paths at Fairfield Hills. The walk is intended for all ages; dogs must remain on a leash at all times. This year’s entry fee is reduced to $5 per dog — cash only. We’ll also be offering our famous t-shirts "A Tired Dog Is A Good Dog" in a new color for only $10. All proceeds go toward Park and Bark, which is scheduled to open this Fall!
How can I help? Spread the word about our dog walk! Forward this email to your dog-loving friends and family. Volunteer! We need help from the community to make all of this happen. Adults and teens are welcome for planning and support before or on the day of the dog walk. Please send us an email if you would like to help out: SYM2013.

The Friends of Newtown Park and Bark and the Parks and Recreation Dept. of Newtown would like to acknowledge the heartfelt responses and generous donations made by so many in honor of Olivia Rose Engel. We are truly honored and deeply touched by the decision of Olivia’s family to support our efforts in this way. We will strive to honor Olivia's joyful and caring nature with a thoughtful use of the donations, which we will share at a later date.

Who We Are: We are a volunteer group of Newtown resident dog-lovers, who have joined forces in order to establish an official off-leash dog park here in town. The town has agreed to provide a piece of land if we can raise the necessary funds to construct a park. Our responsibilities include marketing, fundraising, park design, establishing park rules, and advocating among the necessary town committees and constituents impacted by this project.
Mission & Vision: Our goal is to raise funds through grants and donations in order to pay for construction materials and ongoing maintenance of the park. We envision two separate fenced areas for small (or older) dogs and for larger dogs to play; year-round drinking water; agility course elements; park benches and a memorial garden where residents can create a lasting tribute to beloved companion animals.

Estimated time of Dog Park Opening: Late 2013

Friends of Park and Bark met at the site of the future dog park with John Moore, Parks Operation Supervisor for the Town of Newtown to review the existing plot map and questions regarding fencing, seeding, elevations, parking and park opening. If you happen to visit the new Animal Care Center on Old Farms Road you will see the dog park map. Imagine all the dogs playing, rain, snow or sun. If we build it they will come!
